Course Outline:

This highly practical course is designed to accommodate students who are limited to part-time evening study. As with our daytime courses the units are modular allowing students to progress from a basic award to a full diploma. As such it is equally suited to the hobbyist through to the potential professional.



Career focus:
On successful completion students will be qualified for careers in numerous areas of the audio-media industry. Examples include: Recording studios, Rehearsal studios, Sound equipment hire companies, Music venues, Audio equipment retailers/manufacturers, Radio stations, TV stations, Outside broadcast units, Film/video production companies, Audio post production companies, CD/DVD mastering facilities, Multimedia production companies, Self employment.


Course Outline - Year 1 - Certificate

  1.    Follow safe working practices in music and sound industries

  2.    Occupational roles and employment in music and sound industries

  3.    Basic equipment connections for music and sound industries

  4.    MIDI sequencing and software

  5.    Sound recording skills

  6.    Digital sound editing

  7.    MIDI and audio techniques


Awards:

  1.    City & Guilds 7503 Level 1 certificate in Sound & Music Technology

  2.    Optional - Avid/Digidesign Pro Tools 101/110/Apple Logic Pro 9 certification


Duration:
Sept. to June  2 evenings each week plus Sat.


Course Fees:

  6.    Dynamics and  effects equipment for music and sound industries

  7.    Music instrument digital interface (MIDI)

  8.    Studio sound synchronisation (film clips)

  9.    Studio sound synchronisation (computer games)

  10.    Acoustics and monitoring for music and sound

  11.    Audio analysis

  12.    Soldering and wiring (maintenance)

  1.    City & Guilds 7503 Level 2 Diploma in Sound & Music Technology

  2.    Optional - Avid/Digidesign Pro Tools 201/210M Certification
