Overview

This course covers basic Pro Tools principles. It provides everything you need to complete a Pro Tools project-from initial set up to final mixdown. The course focuses on Pro Tools 8 software and covers a multitude of new functions and feature enhancements. Whether your project involves recording live instruments, MIDI sequencing of software synthesizers, or audio editing or region looping, this course will give you the basic skills to succeed.

Pro Tools 110


Overview

This course provides a more detailed look at the Pro Tools system on top of the knowledge you learned in Pro Tools 101. It covers all the key concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools LE system. The course provides the foundation for the later 200-series of courses on Pro Tools music and post production.

  1.     Record MIDI and audio, using loop recording and advanced techniques


  1.     Work with time scales and virtual instruments

  1.     Apply editing techniques such as the use of Beat Detective for Region Looping


  1.     Enable, play, view, and edit automation data

Pro Tools 201


Overview

This course covers the core concepts and skills needed to operate a Pro Tools|HD system in a professional studio environment. The course continues to build on the fundamental concepts and topics covered in the Pro Tools 100-series of courses. Access to the 201 exam requires passing all previous exams

  1.         Manage sessions using DigiBase browsers to locate and relink missing files


  1.         Apply selection techniques such as creating timeline and edit selections

          nudging and shifting, and auditioning


  1.         Edit using alternate tools, auto fades, and advanced nudging techniques


  1.         Employ HD automation modes, using AutoMatch and automating plug-ins


  1.         Mix with Pro Tools|HD using solo modes, VCA Master tracks, in-depth plug-ins

          and DSP-induced delays


  1.         Finish the session by creating a final mixdown and using PhaseScope

Pro Tools 210M - Certified Operator


Overview

This course covers techniques for working with Pro Tools systems in a professional music production environment. Concepts and skills learned in Pro Tools 101, 110, and 201 are reinforced with practical music-specific examples. Access to the certification exam requires that previous exams have been passed.

Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1.         Prepare a session - including the ability to match session tempo to audio, and use

          external MIDI devices and MIDI Beat Clock


  1.         Track and overdub - including the ability to compose multiple takes and use Dynamic

          Transport, QuickPunch, TrackPunch, and monitor modes


  1.         Control virtual instruments with control surfaces and MIDI controllers - including the

          ability to route multiple outputs from plug-ins


  1.         Perform advanced MIDI production - including MIDI Editor, MIDI real-time properties

          Score Editor, and score setup


  1.         Apply professional editing techniques


  1.         Sample in Pro Tools using software samplers


  1.         Employ professional audio editing techniques - including custom fades, Beat Detective

          for multitrack drums, and the ability to edit with Dynamic Transport


  1.         Perform advanced tempo editing - including use of a graphic tempo editor, and the

          ability to change linearity display mode and work with key changes


  1.         Arrange and produce using window configurations, region replacement, playlist editing

          and song arrangement


  1.         Mix and automate using delay compensation, MIDI offsets, snapshot automation (a.k.a.

          static mixer automation), and trim automation


  1.         Print your mix through MP3/WMA export, mirrored outputs, and external recorder

          synchronizing

Pro Tools 210P - Certified Operator


Overview

This course covers techniques for working with Pro Tools in a professional post production environment. Concepts and skills learned in Pro Tools 101, 110, and 201 are reinforced with practical post-specific examples. Access to the Pro Tools 210P certification exam requires that previous exams have been passed.

Objectives

At the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1.          Synchronize Pro Tools for audio post using SYNC peripherals, loop sync, clock vs.

           positional reference, and frame set rates


  1.           Work with linear video in Pro Tools using Pro Tools 9-pin control , post production spot mode, timestamps, and region replacement


  1.           Work with non-linear video in Pro Tools using QuickTime video, Blackmagic card, Avid DNA, Pro Tools digital video, and non-linear video spotting


  1.           Import digital media into the Pro Tools timeline such as QuickTime video, Avid-compatible media, OMF/AAF (with DigiTranslator 2.0), and MXF media


  1.           Work with video tracks using video track features, video window options, editing options, and video universe window


  1.           Record dialog in Pro Tools using dialog and ADR workflow, track compositing, and playlist display options


  1.           Describe the role of a dialog editor and apply dialog editing techniques to manage dialog and ADR editing workflows, dialog syncing, adding room tone, and dialog clean-up.


  1.           Organize your session by working with Digibase catalogs, creating sub-groups, and importing session data attributes


  1.           Use accurate mixing terminology as you mix to picture using large-scale mixing, session  signal flow, plug-ins for post production, static (snapshot) automation writing, and trim  automation


  1.           Set layback options using linear layback workflow, non-linear layback (export options) and web delivery or final evaluation export
