City & Guilds Parts 1 and 2 - Sound Engineering  (Full-time or Part-time)
Additional recommended modules: Pro Tools 101 and 110, Apple Logic Pro 8 101, Soundtrack Pro. 101

(Free Pro Tools recording system included if completing additional modules!)

Course Aim:
To equip the student with a comprehensive knowledge and advanced practical skills in order to pursue a career as a professional sound engineer. To promote the student's sense of creativity and to instill a sense of pride and professionalism in their work. To introduce the student to the various areas of the audio-media industry and to the extensive range of career options available.



Career focus:
There are numerous career paths for qualified sound engineers. Examples include: Recording studios, Rehearsal studios, Sound equipment hire companies, Music venues, Audio equipment retailers/manufacturers, Radio stations, TV stations, Outside broadcast units, Film/video production companies, Audio post production companies, CD/DVD mastering facilities, Multimedia production companies, Self employment.


Outline of Course content



This course provides an in-depth study of all elements coupled with the development of a broad range of practical skills in the use of recording and live-sound equipment. As part of the course structure, students will be required to complete a number of practical projects and commercial recording sessions, the result of which will contribute towards the assessment process. Students will also be asked to prepare a portfolio to support the knowledge and practical skills acquired during the course.


Entry Requirements:

Leaving certificate preferable or evidence of previous experience
All applicants must attend for interview.

Duration:
Full time: Oct. to June, Mon. to Wed. each week 
Students will also be allocated times on Thurs/Fri. to attend for work
on practical assignments and commercial recording sessions.


Part-time: Oct. to Sept. Two evenings each week 

Students will also be allocated times on Saturdays to attend for work
on practical assignments and commercial recording sessions.
Homework and industry research will also form part of the course structure. 

Award:
City & Guilds certificate in Sound Engineering - Part 1
City & Guilds certificate in Sound Engineering - Part 2


Note 1: Course content is subject to change as deemed necessary by the school.

Note 2: This course may also be taken in combination with our part-time course in Music Technology leading to the award of three City & Guilds certificates plus the Poppyhill School of Recording "Diploma in Sound Engineering and Music Technology" 

Fees:
Course Fee (full-time): €4,500   Deposit on application €400  plus balance of €4,100  

Course Fee (part-time): €3,450 .  Deposit on application €300 plus balance of €3,150

Examination fee: £160.00 Stg. payable May 2009.
Note: Deposit is refundable in the event of an unsuccessful application.

City & Guilds registration fees and certificate fees are included in the course fee.
